Social Development Working Committee

Mandate and Purpose

The Social Development Working Committee’s mandate and purpose is to have Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq, Provincial and Federal Governments discuss issues, develop solutions and suggest actions with respect to social development for Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq. The focus for the committee is the social needs of the Mi’kmaw people.

The Social Development Working Committee includes representatives from:

  • The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq
  • Union of Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq
  • Mi’kmaq Employment Training Secretariat
  • Nova Scotia Native Women’s Association
  • Mi’kmaw Family & Children’s Services of Nova Scotia
  • Membertou, First Nation
  • Indigenous Services Canada
  • Atlantic Policy Congress of First Nations Chiefs Secretariat
  • Maritime School of Social Work
  • Nova Scotia Department of Community Services

  • Goal Three (3): Clarify Policy and Jurisdiction Issues Related to Social Health

Tripartite Forum

The Mi’kmaq • Nova Scotia • Canada Tripartite Forum was formed in 1997, as a partnership between the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq, the Province of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada, to strengthen and to resolve issues of mutual concern affecting Mi’kmaw communities.
