Health Working Committee

Mandate and Purpose

The purpose of the Health Working Committee is to promote a setting where Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq, the Province of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada discuss issues, develop solutions and recommend actions with respect to health for Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq.

The Health Committee works to address various issues regarding health needs for Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq. Through researching the needs of Mi’kmaq, projects and partnerships are developed by First Nations communities and government.

2018-2019 Workplan Goals:

  • Goal One (1): Build Mi’kmaq-Nova Scotia-Canada relationships through communication and collaboration.
  • Goal Two (2): Strengthen mental health and addictions services for Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq.
  • Goal Three (3): Address the gaps in the provision of home care services to Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq.
  • Goal Four (4): Progress the Calls to Action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada.
  • Goal Five (5): Continuously improve the governance of the Health Working Committee.

Tripartite Forum

The Mi’kmaq • Nova Scotia • Canada Tripartite Forum was formed in 1997, as a partnership between the Nova Scotia Mi’kmaq, the Province of Nova Scotia and the Government of Canada, to strengthen and to resolve issues of mutual concern affecting Mi’kmaw communities.
